Nomination Criteria

  • Avant-garde teachers possess unique qualities that set them apart and contribute to their innovative and impactful teaching approaches. Avant-garde teachers have the ability to create dynamic and engaging learning environments that inspire creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning in their students.
  • They exhibit a multifaceted approach to teaching that encompasses creativity, risk-taking, and critical thinking skills to challenge traditional norms and inspire students’ creativity and deep learning experiences. They prioritize adaptability and open-mindedness, creating inclusive environments that value diverse perspectives and promote collaboration among students.
  • With a genuine passion for teaching and a commitment to their students’ success, they continuously innovate their teaching methods through reflection and social awareness, incorporating social justice and global perspectives to foster responsible citizenship and a deeper understanding of societal issues. This award is open to teachers who are in service at preschool, primary, or secondary recognized by local and international authorities with a minimum of five (5) years teaching experience in any subject matters.

The Prizes

  • A Research Grant Worth USD5,000.
  • The Ombak Laut Trophy.
  • Certificate.
  • Return Air Ticket for one to attend the GEA Event.
  • Accomodation for GEA Event.

Nomination Process

  • This award is open to all nationalities.
  • Submission of application can be through self-nomination or nomination by others.
  • All applicants are required to complete the registration and submit their application at www.gea.upsi.edu.my.
  • All submissions need to be accompanied by:
    a)   a portfolio; and
    b)   a short video (of not more than 5 minutes)
  • Shortlisted applicants will be notified and partake in an interview with the panel of judges.
  • All applicants must abide by the rules and regulations as stipulated in the terms and conditions.
  • All applications are reviewed according to a set of criteria by the awards panel of judges.
  • All applicants will be notified of the result within two (2) months from the closing date. If an applicant does not receive any notification after two (2) months from the closing date, the application is considered unsuccessful.
  • The decision made by the panel of judges is final and binding.
